Safe mode (holding shift while booting) doesn't work. I hear a click from the computer, like a fan or disk turning off, and then a moment later the entire computer shuts down. The bar moves along for about a minute and makes it 2/3 across. After a few seconds I get a grey apple logo and a loading bar below. ![]() If I turn the computer on, it will make the wakeup noise and present a grey screen. This is the second time this has happened - last time I restored from a backup, but that's not working this time, and I'm worried this would still happen again. Here is the debug message I get when opening in safe modeĢ012 Mac Pro reaches grey loading screen then shuts down I have a mid 2012 Mac Pro running High Sierra. Thank you in advance for your help and advice as I am complet struck and don't know what to try next. I even put tried to put back my old original HD and RAM as I new it worked but it doesn't boot anymore either ! This is why I am thinking that it could be the HD cable ? I cannot run Diagnostic as when I type in "D" as boot nothing happens. I reinitialized the NVRAM and PRAM, I launched a repair disk and verify disk from disk utility. I can boot in safe mode so I don't think its a cable problem ? My new SSd and RAM is recognized and works as well so I don't think its a hardware problem either. I havent installed any 3rd party programs so it cannot be a extension problem. I have a kernel panic error message but I cannot figure out what it is exactly. I was able to run El Capitan in safe mode. I have the apple logo, the progression bar stoppes halfway and the MBP reboots again and repeats the whole process. ![]() I switched off the MBP and when I tried to switch it on again, it wouldn't reboot. Everything worked, I was able to boot and login normaly. Being a little slow I decided to upgrade it by replacing HD and RAM with : 500Go SSD and 8 Go RAM from Crucial. MacOH - The switchGPU script is actually a stripped and slightly edited version of the macoh.sh script.I own a MBP late 2008.In this way, gfxCardStatus can be started in integrated GPU mode. SwitchGPU uses a version of gfxCardStatus that accepts the mode you want to start the program in as a command line parameter. Next, the script will start gfxCardStatus three times consecutively to address the problem of the selection (which GPU) not being preserved immediately. When you login, the automator program will start the integrated switchGPU script that installs gfxCardStatus at its first run. You can just start the app by yourself, so you won't have to restart your machine. Tick the box in the dialog and you're good to go: switchGPU will start the next time you login. Go to 'System settings > Users and groups > Log in' and add switchGPU from the programs folder using the plus sign. Installationĭownload the zipped Automator file (switchGPU.zip), unzip it and drag it to your programs folder. Tested on a late 2011 Macbook with Mavericks, but it should work on most models. However, those who have still two working graphic cards can easily switch to the discrete GPU (or dynamic mode) when they need to. For example, connecting an external monitor might not work anymore afterwards. ![]() Keep in mind that using only the integrated GPU may have some drawbacks. This program is a wrapper for gfxCardStatus, which doesn't have an option to set a default and has an frustrating bug that requires the user to tick a GPU version twice switchGPU addresses those problems. a lot of Macbook Pro 2011 owners of who the discrete GPU causes lots of trouble (like crashes, reboots, etc.) This is useful for people who want to save on their batteries, but also for people who face issues with their discrete GPU, e.g. If your Mac has two graphic cards, switchGPU makes your Mac automatically use the integrated GPU when you login. ![]()
